In the face of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ownership (Block Communications Inc.) continuing their bad faith bargaining techniques, Pittsburgh Restaurant Workers Aid will not grant interviews, answer requests from, or support an organization that continues to disrespect its workers and undermine their ability to organize.
Wages, tips, and harassment in the restaurant industry
A recent report conducted by One Fair Wage and reported by The 19th found that nearly half of women who work for tips in restaurants have experienced harassment from customers or supervisors during the pandemic.“Fifty-seven percent of women…said they have considered leaving due to instances of sexual harassment…on top of the low wages they receive. Sixty-three percent of women of color said the same.”
2 Years of COVID: Reflections from PRWA
As this week marks two years since the widespread business closures and lockdowns that signaled the start of the COVID-19 pandemic for those living in the United States, founding members of Pittsburgh Restaurant Workers Aid are taking this moment to reflect on the many changes and hardships that restaurant industry workers have experienced. Needless to say, the restaurant industry has changed irreversibly, and we've yet to see any meaningful and widespread positive changes.
